Using Candles in Feng Shui
Feng Shui translates to wind and water. Feng Shui is about creating harmony between the earth and the human body and harnessing the earth’s energy to cultivate the full potential of our human power. Candle Feng Shui is the Chinese art of organizing candle color, scent, and placement in a room to produce a mental, spiritual, and emotional effect on people.
It is believed that Feng Shui can affect a person’s seven chakras. Chakras are an ancient Indian thought of the seven spiritual centers of the human spirit.
The idea of the chakras working efficiently allows energy to flow freely through them. Energy is Chi. Candle Feng Shui is t to helps with the flow of energy or chi through the seven chakras.
A blocked chakra is thought to lead to negative consequences such as illness, poverty, sleep disturbances, depression, anxiety, and general negativity.
1. Chakras, loosely defined
There are seven chakras. The red root chakra is located at the bottom of the spine and affects financial independence and money. The orange sacral chakra is located two inches below the navel and involves romance and sexuality’s sense of well-being and pleasure.
The yellow solar-plexus chakra affects our sense of well-being and self-esteem. It is in the upper abdominal area. The green heart chakra is in the center of the chest above the heart and affects our ability. Our blue throat chakra affects our ability to communicate and speak the truth.
The indigo third eye or brow chakra affects our ability to see the life taken as a whole, intuition, imagination, and decision-making. It is located right between our eyes. The purple crown chakra affects everything. It is our inner and outer beauty and peace.
2. The Five Elements and Color Meanings
The five Chinese elements of Feng Shui are wood, water, metal, earth, and fire.
Green is a color that is commonly used for healing and prosperity. Green is earth. It is suggested that green candles be used for rooms such as bathrooms, kitchens, and workout rooms.
Red is fire and passion. It is used for many rooms such as the kitchen, yoga studio, bedroom, and even living room space. And is also thought to help balance energies for electronics.
Yellow, orange-brown, beige, and warm cream colors promote confidence, intelligence, and intuition. These candle colors or color combinations are perfect for bedrooms, libraries, dens, studies, and cafes. They enhance peace and relaxation.
The essential oils in these candles can often help calm and clear one’s mind to better focus on their internal intuition and pay attention to it.
Blue is water and the flow of positive chi. This is an excellent color for places with many people where energy flow is complicated due to multiple personalities and opinions. These candles are great for living rooms, family rooms, dining rooms, restaurants, and board rooms.
White and silver tones are metal and symbolize power (like a sword). These candles are great for any “man cave” or office.
3. Scents
“positive scents” raise the flow of energy and affect emotions. For example, the scent of lavender is relaxing and can promote sleep. The scent of jasmine rose, musk, and ylang-ylang can put you in a romantic mood.
The scent of juniper is cleansing and healing. Also, the scent of sage promotes security and prosperity, and citrus, mint, and basil stimulate memory and alertness and wake a person up.
Vanilla is for well-being and comfort. Sandalwood, clove, and cedar balance and can compensate for the other elements’ over-stimulation in an environment. Strawberry, raspberry, and different fruity-berry scents promote excitement, high energy, and happiness.
4. Candle Feng Shui by placement
As explained above, different colors are put in other rooms to focus on the flow of different energies. It is essential to focus on one mood you are trying to cultivate in each room and not clutter several other candles in the same room.
If you want to be more versatile with your Feng Shui, you can create an altar with a screen around it and light whichever candles you like in meditation. You can also combine a few elemental colors to focus on a few specific chakras.
5. Simple examples of where to put your candles
A white vanilla candle can be placed by the front door to promote peace and positive relaxation for your guests.
Green basil and sage candles can be used in an office or conference room.
Red roses and lavender candles can be used in the bedroom for calming and arousal.
Orange citrus candles can be used in a study, library, classroom, or café to focus on studying and alertness.
Green mint candles can be placed in the dining room and kitchen to cleanse the pallet and refresh.
Cream, beige sandalwood candles, and vanilla can be put in the bathroom to balance the water energy.
Blue juniper candles can be put in a high-traffic area such as a living room, hallway, or dining room to promote harmony amongst all the different people, chakras, and moods.
Green basil candles can be used in the yoga room for peace and healing. Orange and berry-scented candles are also suitable for these rooms.
Energy Flow
Several colors, scents, and room combinations promote energy flow in any room or setting. Be creative and have fun trying out all of the different varieties under the rainbow.
However, if you believe in the healing properties and chakras involved in Candle Feng Shui, you must focus on specific moods or themes and not over-clutter the flow of chi with too many scents and colors in the same space.
Also, note that you don’t necessarily have to sacrifice style in your space or rearrange your room’s theme to have candle Feng Shui.
