All About the Water Element in Astrology
There are four elements in astrology: water, fire, earth, and air. Each of these four elements has a unique set of symbolism and traits that set them apart from each other. The set of traits that match each element also affects all of the 12 zodiac signs, some more than others. Each element’s sign, including the water element, can affect the other signs differently. One element also rules over three of the astrological houses, which can also affect each sign’s thoughts and feelings.
The symbolism of the Water Element
The water element is best known for its connection to the emotional, spiritual, and subconscious. People who are in touch with the water elemental, especially the water signs, are likely to be in touch with their emotions better than the other signs in the zodiac.
These people are more sensitive than others emotionally and in other ways. Their intuition is often better than that of signs that are not connected to the water element. They can better connect to the world around them because of this trait.
Social, nurturing, compassionate, and understanding are great words that can describe the water element and the signs and people who have traits of the water element. Since they are so deeply in tune with their own emotions, they tend to pick up on other people’s emotions as well. They are very empathetic and will do whatever they can to make someone else feel better.
Signs who are connected to the water element also tend to be highly imaginative and creative. They use the world around them as inspiration for their art. Paint is one of their favorite mediums to work with. They feel as though their art can show others their feelings in a way that their words cannot.
Water Element Astrology: Water Signs
Each element has three signs which conform to its traits and symbolism better than the other eight zodiac signs. The three water signs are Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces. There is also a hierarchy of which sign is more water-like within these three signs than the others.
Cancer (June 21 – July 22)
Cancer is a water cardinal sign, which basically means that it falls between Scorpio and Pisces with how water-like their traits are. Based on the water element meaning, Cancer people are some of the most empathetic people on the planet.
They make devoted friends and partners and wonderfully caring parents. These people are also very emotional and sensitive. They are not highly creative like the other water signs, though.
Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)
Scorpio is a fixed water sign, which means that it is the closest water-aligned sign out of all of the water signs and out of the rest of the zodiac signs. This sign uses their emotions and intuition to guide them in nearly every part of their lives.
They are sensitive to their own emotions as well as the emotions of others. Scorpio people have a dreamy personality that fuels their creative side. They truly envelop every core personality trait of a water sign.
Pisces (February 19 – March 20)
Pisces is the mutable water sign, which means that it changes how well it relates to the water sign based on how they are feeling. According to the water element facts, this sign is extremely creative. Pisces has such an expansive imagination that it never seems to end.
They rely on their intuition more than most signs, but they are not as emotional as other water signs. They change how they act around certain people, affecting how water-like they act on any given day.
Water Element Astrology: Water Sign Interaction
Each element’s signs have different personalities. Great and sometimes confusing things can happen when these signs get together.
Interaction Between Water Signs
When two water signs are together, they can help each other understand the deepest thoughts that lie within each other. They explore each other’s emotions, and they are always there to provide emotional support for each other.
Two water signs are likely to become extremely close. Their boundaries will fade away. They will stay with each other no matter how much their emotional waves rise and fall.
Interaction with Air Signs
Water and air signs together can also connect deeply, although not as deeply as two water signs. Water element signs help air signs to realize their emotions to process them instead of just ignoring them.
Since water signs are already highly aware of their emotions, an air sign can help a water sign talk about their feelings when they don’t know the right words to say. These two signs always encourage each other to get the best version of themselves that they can be.
Interaction with Fire Signs
Water and fire signs are opposites. Depending on the two people involved, they can make a steamy match, or one will always be putting out the other. Fire signs do their best to encourage water signs to be all that they can be. However, they can be a bit bossy about it at times.
Water signs will help fire signs realize the true meaning of their emotions, which can sometimes offend them, as they will think that the water sign is cramping their style. However, if they can work through their differences, they are sure to make a great team.
Interaction with Earth Signs
Water is comfortable with their emotions, but earth signs don’t feel the same way. Water signs will try to break through an earth sign’s tough exterior to get to their emotions. This can help the earth sign to better understand and react to their emotions.
On the other side of things, an earth sign will teach a water element sign to be less emotional and more logical. These two do a great job of balancing each other out.
Water Element Astrology: Houses Ruled by the Water Element
Each element not only rules over three signs but three houses as well. The three out of 12 houses that the water element rules over are the fourth, eighth, and twelfth houses.
When a sign is in one of these houses, whether they are a water sign or not, they are likely to show some of their more water-like traits than they would if their sign was in another house.
Fourth House
The fourth house has to do with the home, domestic life, and how a person thinks their upbringing affects their current life. During this time, the signs are likely to look deep inside themselves to understand how their past affects who they are now. Their focus may also be on their parents raised them or how they are raising their children.
Eighth House
The eighth house is a complicated house. It has to do with possessions, but not individual possessions. This has to do with possessions that two people share. As per the water element astrology, this is common between partners, siblings, and roommates.
During this time, the signs are likely to think more about the things that they share with another person and if it is really worth sharing or not. Big changes are likely to happen during this time. It is up to the person in question whether they make a great change to their assets or if they get greedy and take everything for their own.
Twelfth House
The twelfth house is the most confusing house out of all of the houses. It has to do with the subconscious and all of the things that go on within a person’s mind but cannot easily be shown in the physical world.
During this time, people are likely to try to find the answers to large questions, like the meaning of life. They may become more spiritual or do something else to try to understand themselves better.
SUMMARY: Water Element
The water sign influences everyone, whether they are aware of it or not. The water element can make people realize their deepest emotions and help them to understand themselves better. It really is a powerful element.
